Outworkers are contractors or employees who perform their work at home or at a place that would not normally be thought of as a business premises.

Outworkers are common in the textile, clothing or footwear industry.

The Fair Work (Clothing Outworker Code of Practice) Regulations came into operation on 1 March 2008, creating greater transparency in the supply and production of clothing, and ensuring that outworkers are treated consistently with industry best practice.

The Fair Work (Clothing Outworker Code of Practice) Regulations 2022 made under the Fair Work Act 1994 have been remade to ensure that they are relevant and up to date and so that the protections for workers continue.

They came into effect on 1 September 2022.
