National mine safety database

On 1 January 2014 the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 (SA) Chapter 10 (Mines) came into effect in South Australia.

From 1 January 2015 mine operators will be required to submit incident reports and quarterly work health and safety reports addressing criteria specified in Schedule 24 (PDF 52kb), of the WHS Regulations to the online National Mine Safety Database (NMSD).

A login is required to access the database and this can be obtained by contacting SafeWork SA's Help Centre 1300 365 255.

NMSD reporting is in addition to notifiable incident reporting, as required by the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) and the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 (SA). Reporting these incidents needs to continue via the Notifiable Incident form.

The regular upload of information by mine operators to the national system provides regulators across Australia with up-to-date information about mine safety to identify work health and safety incident trends and emerging issues.
