To achieve a targeted reduction in workplace injuries, SafeWork SA is working with Dairy Australia, Dairy SA and their members to support farmers with the practical implementation of work health and safety requirements.
Between 2012 and 2014, the top four causes of injury in the dairy farming sector were; being hit by a moving object (37%), muscular stress (20%), slips, trips and falls (17%), and vehicle incidents (13%).
By working together with education and guidance addressing common hazards and issues which challenge the dairy sector, work health and safety outcomes are expected to improve.
The SafeWork SA Seven Steps for Small Business Guide and Checklist has been adapted specifically for use by dairy farmers and will be used in conjunction with a range of resources.
In addition, SafeWork SA is providing dairy farmers with a free on farm advice and information service, information sessions and group discussions to build skills in managing work health and safety.
