A person conducting a business or undertaking (or employer) should keep written records about respiratory protective equipment (RPE) used at the workplace. Records could include:

  • risk assessment(s)
  • RPE selection
  • training provided to the users, supervisors and those who maintain RPE
  • use of RPE
  • fit testing
  • repair and maintenance
  • air monitoring (kept for 30 years after the date the record is made)
  • health monitoring (for at least 30 years after the record is made or 40 years for asbestos)
  • evidence of review of RPE effectiveness.
