Food delivery industry
The food delivery industry involves the ordering and delivery of food, drinks and other items from restaurants, cafés and other food outlets and stores, to members of the public by delivery riders, or gig workers. Gig workers are generally hired through an app or a website to provide a product to a customer.
The gig economy may also be referred to as the platform economy, or on-demand work.
If you are a worker or employer in the gig economy, Safe Work Australia has produced information for delivery riders, food outlets, and platforms that describe each party’s work health and safety duties and ways to manage risks in the workplace, as well as information about workers’ compensation.
