The way to apply for a Dangerous Substance licence has changed following the introduction of an online application form.

A Dangerous Substance licence (DS licence) is required for commercial storage of LP gas, flammable liquids, toxic substances and corrosive substances when certain limits are exceeded.

A DS licence is also required if the site where the dangerous substance was stored has a change of ownership, the new owner must submit a new application for a licence to keep a dangerous substance.

Previously, applications for the DS licence were made via email submission of the relevant completed PDF form.

From 8 November 2022, the PDF notification forms will no longer be available on the SafeWork SA website and applications for the DS licence must be made by completing the electronic application form via iApply.

The iApply form aims to streamline and make the application process more user friendly, whilst reducing the number of incomplete or inappropriate notifications.

There are 4051 current DS licences granted to businesses in South Australia.

Business owners who have previously applied for DS licences will be contacted via email to advise of the change in application process.
